Why I Chose to Make a Simple Crochet Blanket

Hi yarn lovers, I am Shehnaaz, the designer behind crochetdreamz.com. I live in Wisconsin with my daughter and husband. I have been crocheting for over 10 years now and I really enjoy blogging and working from home.

I love crocheting so much that I miss it terribly if I take a break. I believe everyone should have a hobby and feel incredibly blessed to make a living doing what I love.

Whoever said choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life is absolutely right.

Easy Projects That Look Good

I take pleasure in designing easy to work projects that look good. That said, I also like designing for multiple skill levels.

If you are looking for something simple, you might like my Uptown Poncho and if you would like something more Intermediate, you can try my Bentley Sweater for Boys.

I draw my inspiration from eclectic sources - colors, stitch patterns, items you see in the stores and magazines. I do not plan my projects way ahead but just make whatever comes to mind at the moment.

Most of the time I do not even know what I will be designing the next week.

My favorite part of crocheting is combining colors. I hardly shop online for yarn as I love seeing and touching the yarn. Colors can look really different on your screen.

A One Day Crochet Blanket Pattern, Really?

I have always loved quick projects. So I decided to design a simple textured blanket that people of all skill levels can enjoy. This crochet baby blanket pattern will take only few hours of your time and will make a perfect gift for anyone you love.

Quick-Working Blanket Yarn

I mostly use Lion Brand Wool-Ease, Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice and Lion Brand Heartland yarn. This time I wanted to try something new, so I tried Lion Brand Color Made Easy and absolutely loved it.

It is a bulky size 5 yarn but not too thick or rope like. The yarn has great stitch definition and the stitches don't just blend in like other bulky yarns. The yarn comes in my favorite bright colors which are generally hard to find in a yarn of this thickness. This yarn will be great for making chunky hats, cowls and sweaters too.

One Day Crochet Blanket (free pattern!) 🧶 Make & Do Crew (4)

I am excited to design more projects with this yarn. Since this yarn comes in many beautiful colors, I am sure you will find a color combination that suits your taste. I think colors Kombucha, Alabaster and Basalt would work great for this pattern. You can also try Avocado, Alabaster and Wheat for a more neutral look.

The yarn is 100% machine washable and dryable, making it perfect for every day items.

Skills Needed To Crochet a Blanket In One Day

You should know the basic crochet stitches and how to work a half double crochet decrease. I would categorize this pattern as advanced beginner.

An easy textured stitch pattern combined with a simple yet beautiful border makes this afghan a project that people of all skill levels will love. New crocheters looking for a mindless Netflix project, someone looking for a last-minute baby shower gift or a seller looking to build craft fair inventory will all enjoy this project.

The stitch pattern is so easy and repetitive that you will memorize it in no time. So get your hook, some Color Made Easy yarn in the colors of your choice and get started.

FAQs

Can you crochet a blanket in a day? ›

Sometimes you just need an easy, quick crochet blanket that's still pretty and modern. You can make this textured beauty in a day's time, so it's perfect for last minute gift giving! It might be a fast blanket, but quality and good looks weren't sacrificed.

Can I make a blanket with just single crochet? ›

With just a few hours of work and only one crochet stitch, you can have a single crochet baby blanket in no time at all.

What is the softest crochet stitch for a blanket? ›

The Tornado Stitch is one of the best crochet stitches for blanket projects since its soft texture and reversible nature make it super versatile!

What is the thickest crochet stitch for a blanket? ›

Crochet Thermal Stitch is a super dense and one of the thickest crochet stitches. It's worked on two rows simultaneously which gives a double layer and a super thick and sturdy texture.

Do you have to block a crochet blanket every time you wash it? ›

You can add some gentle wool wash or blocking product to give it a good clean at the same time but that's not mandatory. I have a lot of allergies so I avoid adding any product.

How fast can a beginner crochet a blanket? ›

4% reported that it takes them more than 6 months to complete one, and another 4% complete a baby blanket in less than 7 days! So, it is safe to say an average crocheter takes about 1 month to complete a crochet baby blanket. Which amounts to a total of 12 – 20 hours on the average for a simple crochet blanket design!

Should you wash a blanket after you crochet it? ›

It's a good idea to carefully wash any crochet blanket or garment before giving it as a gift or before use to ensure it is colorfast and will not bleed dye. Can an item with acrylic yarn be machine-dried? Acrylic fibers can be damaged by high temperatures, so avoid machine-drying items if possible.

What is a magic blanket crochet? ›

The Crochet Puff The Magic Blanket is a ripple afghan with a puff stitch to jump out of the blanket. There is colour play involved in this blanket but rows 2, 3 4 and 5 are used over and over again in a sequence of colouring to make it appear as it does.

Should I double crochet for a blanket? ›

The answer is definitely yes! Double crochet stitches are perfect for blankets because they're much taller than single crochet stitches, so they work up quickly! In fact, many of my crochet blankets use some variation of the double crochet stitch.

Is single or double crochet better for a blanket? ›

Double crochet is also more efficient and will use less yarn for the same size blanket. Depending on the tension you work in, single crochet can be very rigid. If you want your blanket to be very warm and more dense/tight, use single crochet, and if you want a lighter throw blanket use double crochet.

Which crochet stitch builds up the fastest? ›

Typically, the half double crochet and double crochets are the fastest basic stitches for most crocheters. But maybe someone is able to zip through a project consisting entirely of treble crochets in no time. For any crocheter, this is something that they may have to test.

How fast can you crochet a blanket?

What is the shortest crochet stitch? ›

The far left is 9 rows of sc, the next swatch is 6 rows of hdc, then 5 rows of double crochet (dc), and far right is 3 rows of treble crochet (tc). Slip stitches are used when you want to move across the row without adding height, and are the shortest of all crochet stitches.

Is it faster to knit or crochet a baby blanket? ›

Crochet is much quicker than knitting too, so you will feel like you are going through balls in no time. Knitting a blanket uses less yarn and takes longer too, so if you like slow, mindful crafting it's a cheaper hobby than crochet.
